That’s all you get.
3 seconds.
Research shows us that people at a live event will decide within 3 seconds if they are going to stop and talk to you.
It may not sound like a lot of time but if you know how to maximize your message in those 3 seconds then you will be able to deliver a message that can’t be ignored. So, here are the 3 top tips to ensure you deliver maximum impact with your display;
1) Tell people in plain and simple language who you are and what you do. It’s amazing how many people get so hung up on clever strap lines but leave people completely unaware of what they actually do. This section of your display should be your organization’s name and an explanation of what you do in no more than 5 or 6 words. Try it! Try and describe what you do in 5 simple words and see what you come up with.
2) Once you’ve told people who you are and what you do, you need to give them a hook. You need to give them a reason to come and talk to you. This needs to be 3 or 4 simple bullet points or images that deliver real benefits to the observer. What’s in it for them? Make it relevant to the specific people you want to talk to as everyone has different objectives.
3) Keep your display clean and crisp. A number of people try to make their display a replica of their corporate brochure, giving details of every product, their entire price list and a complete company history. The job of your display is to tempt people to come and see you so that you can then talk to them about the detail. I’m afraid that you still need to do the selling yourself; your display won’t do that for you.
3 simple tips. Nothing that’s rocket science but proven methods that will give your display maximum impact and persuade people to come and speak to you.
